ER Visit

By melissa | March 23, 2009

I must admit that yesterday was not the most fun we’ve ever had. We went to the gym and after I ran/walked my 13 miles, I went to the gym’s daycare center. As I stood up quickly, I got that oh-so-incredibly wonderful sensation that one gets from having low blood pressure. I immediately grabbed the table because I felt like I was going to faint. I had a few more episodes of this throughout the day, though nothing horrible.

In the afternoon, I decided that I was going to take the girls to our subdivision’s playground. A part of me wanted to walk, but having had the LBP episodes earlier in the day, I decided that my 6.5 miles was probably enough and that it would probably be best for all of us for me to just drive the mile there.

So, I loaded up the girls, filled sippy cups (I don’t always when we go to the park), and we were off to play.

The girls had a wonderful time on the swings and going down the slides. Of course, they wanted to climb up the slides, but honestly, that scares me to death. I made them go the long way around.

The girls were definitely excited. Mayli was so excited that while she was running on the equipment, she forgot to duck as she was going into the tunnel. She immediately started crying.

I couldn’t see her because she was about ten feet away, going the opposite direction, and about six feet off the ground. When she finally came into view, I could see a mark right above her eyebrow. The fact that I could see a mark on her face from that distance made me worry. I had her come down the quickest way I knew…the slide.

By the time she was off the slide, her poor little face was covered in blood. I can honestly say that I was scared to death. Of course, Mati was still up on the play area. It seemed like forever (was probably 10 seconds) but Mati finally came down the slide.

I then took Mayli to one of the tables and grabbed a wipe to check out her wound. It was about an inch long and probably an eighth of an inch wide.

I knew that the ER was no place to take Mati. Unfortunately, I also knew that Matt would not be able to help me. I remembered seeing the neighbors’ cars at home, so I quickly drove home and told them what had happened. Tracy kept Mati and Nick, her husband, drove us to the ER.

I have to say that Mayli did a lot better than me. She only cried right after her accident happened. I was in tears for much longer. We were seen immediately at the hospital. I hadn’t even finished registering her when she had a room. They evaluated her and two hours and five stitches later, she was released. She didn’t cry once at the hospital. She is one brave little trooper!

When we arrived back at Nick and Tracy’s to pick up Mati, Mati rushed toward Mayli and gave her a huge hug. That was a great way to end that ordeal.

I really hope that nothing like this ever happens to the girls. Over a day later, I am still a little worked up about it!

Mayli and Mati were excited to see Ariel yesterday at Disney World. We took the girls there for Mayli’s birthday. Mati kept trying to see the Princesses before her turn. We also had to pull her away from them kicking and screaming a few times.

Never Would Have Guessed….

By melissa | February 24, 2009

I think most people who know me know that I am no fan of exercise unless it involves picking up a remote. I have really been working out the past few months though.

At the end of January, I decided that I was going to walk/run 20 miles per week in February. I felt that twenty was probably a realistic goal.

Of course, Matt was deployed for the first part of the month, which automatically means that one of us, or more, will be sick. Mati and I were the ones this time.

I did not walk/run 20 miles per week. As a matter of fact, today, February 24, 2009, I completed my 100th (YES—THAT’S ONE HUNDRED!!!!) mile. I stand at 100.5 miles and still have a few more days to go! Some days, I actually walk seven miles. Today, I did 7.5 and could have done more but the blisters were starting to bother me. Honestly, I never would have guessed that I would be able to walk more than 100 miles in February. Can’t wait to see what I can do in March!

Thank God it came off the walls.

Mati managed to paint in the dining room, living room, and a little bit in the hallway. Thank God for the Magic Eraser. If only I could use it to erase a few pounds.

I’ll tell you, I can’t turn my back on that girl for a SECOND. At least I have a picture of this. I didn’t think to take a picture of the walls.

I don’t really know for sure who was the biggest culprit. But something tells me that there was more than one involved.

Dear Mati:

By melissa | January 6, 2009

I first want to say how much I love you. I must say that you have been giving me a run for my money the past few days.

You have officially separated yourself from a monkey. You are now using chairs to reach whatever fun things that might be out of reach. You love to climb onto the glass kitchen table and the cabinets. Thankfully, you have stopped climbing onto the TV stand. At least for the past few days. You have also stopped spanking yourself when you misbehave.

Yesterday, I heard you and your sister having WAAAAAY too much fun in the bathroom. Laughter in the bathroom is probably never a good thing, especially when those doing the laughing are under five. You discovered a new finger paint. Not so good for mommy.

Not too long after you fingerpainted the toilet seat, you had a lot of fun playing in that sandbox that is located in Mommy and Daddy’s bathroom. That probably wasn’t the best way for Mommy to end her bath.

I do honestly hope that you will stop playing in the toilet and the litter box. REALLY. It’s kinda gross.

Love,

Mommy
